HS1002B: Social Determinants of Health
This course introduces students to key social determinants of health and orients students to viewing health in relation to social factors and social justice. Students will be introduced to basic terms, concepts and measurements related to health, public health, population health and health inequalities. As the instructor for this course, I was responsible for 493 students with the support of 5 TAs.
MIT2165: Special Topics in MIT: Health, Media and Information (Fall, 2018)
This course introduces students to key concepts and debates surrounding the intersection of health and the media, in order to give them the tools necessarily to understand and to interrogate how health information is communicated, and with what effects. In addition to revising course topics and assessments, I prepared weekly lectures and active learning activities to help students improve their understanding of course materials and to apply them to specific examples. I also graded assignments and met with students one on one to further facilitate their learning. As the instructor for this course, I was solely responsible for 33 students.
POLISCI2225E: Developing Countries in Global Politics (Full Term 2017-2018)
This course provides students with an introduction to development theory, actors, interrogating how these factors interact with each other and shape how politics is enacted and experienced within the Global South. In addition to revising the course topics and assessments, I prepared and delivered weekly lectures, and co-facilitated group discussions alongside my teaching assistant. I also graded assignments and met with students on an ongoing basis to consult on course materials and assessments. As the instructor, I shared responsibility for 45 students with my teaching assistant.
SJPS 3382G: Living a Just Life in an Unjust World (Winter 2017; Winter, 2018)
This course, which I adapted from an existing course outline, investigates what it means to live a life that is socially just, while empowering students with the knowledge and strategies needed to help them reconcile their progressive values with the reality of living in a world that is often unjust. In addition to revising the course readings and assessments, I prepared and delivered weekly lectures, facilitated group discussion, graded assignments and met with students to consult on course materials and assessments. I also organized for numerous guest speakers to come into the classroom and share their knowledge and experiences of working in social justice with the students. As the sole instructor, I was responsible for all 23 students enrolled in the course.
WS 3153G – Bad Girls: Dissident Women in Popular Culture (Winter 2017)
This course, which I adapted from a previously taught course, examines the figure of the ‘bad girl’ in various forms of popular cultural production as a means of interrogating how various types of dissidence is created, controlled and contested. In addition to revising the reading list and assessments, I prepared and delivered weekly lectures, facilitated group discussions, graded assignments and met with students one on one to consult on course materials and assessments. As the sole instructor, I was responsible for all 33 students enrolled in the course.
WS 4458F – Special Topics in Women’s Studies: Reproductive Rights and Justice in Canada and the World (Fall 2015)
I developed and taught this course with the purpose of providing students with an introduction to key issues of reproductive justice within both a Canadian and a global context. In addition to developing the course outline and reading list, I prepared and delivered weekly lectures, facilitated class discussions, graded assignments, and met with students to consult on course materials and assessments. As the sole instructor, I was responsible for all ten students enrolled in the course.
